Now in our 38th year of operation, the Forest City String School Saturday Morning Program (formerly known as Forest City Talent Education) offers weekly classes in violin, viola, cello, bass, and harp. This program also offers three levels of orchestra, chamber music groups, regular recitals, coaching with accompanists, and an annual string workshop.

Based on the Suzuki pedagogical approach to teaching and learning, students from this program have distinguished themselves at many levels in Conservatory examinations, music festivals, and the Canadian Music Competition, and a number of them have gone on to professional careers in music.

Our faculty includes over thirty instructors, coaches, accompanists, and conductors.  Students range in age from 4 to 18 years, all of whom study with a private teacher during the week.

Our Mission

To develop confidence, leadership and life skills in children of all ages and socio-economic backgrounds by nurturing a love of music and inspiring a culture of community engagement.

Our Values

Inspirational Learning

Students, at all levels of ability, are nurtured to attain their highest level of musicianship and inspired to become active contributors to society and lifelong supporters of the arts.

Pedagogy

A devoted and passionate faculty offers a rich learning experience for string students in an environment where quality instruction and volunteerism thrives. By actively promoting and facilitating professional development for our music instructors we invest in the future of our community and school.

Community Engagement

We are committed to involving students in musical opportunities beyond the weekly program including performances in local schools, music festivals, community functions, workshops and collaborative concerts mentored by experienced professional musicians. FCSS also values its affiliation with the Faculty of Music and welcomes music education majors into our school as a part of “Community Engaged Learning” (CEL), a University of Western Ontario outreach initiative.
